Corrupt audio after Win8.1 clean install on Lenovo W520 with Conexant 20672 SmartAudio
Under a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro, audio playback becomes distorted after using the computer for some minutes.
Audio starts out okay, but then subtle distortion starts to occur, progressively worsening.
At its worst it badly affects audio reproduction,
making certain tasks impossible.
I have replicated this with three different drivers under Windows 8.1, in multiple installations of Windows 8.1:
Driver that is built into windows: "High Definition Audio Device" Driver that Lenovo supplies on their website and that is also offered in Windows Update: Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD driver 8.32.43.0Dolby driver
I never saw this problem under Windows 7 or Windows 8, and I do not currently have any audio problems on the same computer when it is running another operating system.
From my experience the problem is worse when using the official Conexant driver or the
Dolby driver, but is also prevalent when using the default Windows driver.
This leads me to suspect it is a problem with Windows 8.1, not the drivers or the hardware.

After loading Windows 7 in addition to Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu (a triple boot config), I eventually ascertained it was a hardware problem.
Windows 7 showed the same audio problems, but to a lesser extent.
The most strange aspect is that after travelling
with the laptop to another country by plane, the hardware problem is resolved.
I can only assume that something was physically wrong with the computer's internals.

- Users must select the appropriate ISO, either 32 bit or 64 bit, depending upon their individual computer.
- Extract the ISO file to a separate USB device or burn the program to a compact disc.
- Run the Microsoft Windows 10 upgrade directly from the software that you have thus created.
