cd drive help - I have xp prof and get msg, no disc in drive insert disc, when I try to save file to cd.  This is only on a new cd.
I have a cd that I saved info to in the past and if I put that cd in the drive it will open and I am able to write to it but
every time I try a new cd the msg comes up that there is no cd in the drive.
This also happened when I placed a dvd in the drive, it didn't open it.  -confused and need easy to understand assistance.

It's possible that you installed an "optional" driver from Windows Update, but at this point, it's hard to tell.

The issue is complicated because you have 3rd-party CD-writing software in addition to Windows.

In your original post, you mentioned trying a DVD.  From what I can determine, the UJDA310 does NOT read or write DVDs, and is limited to CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW formats -- were you ever able to play a DVD on this computer?

Does this drive reliably play factory-recorded CDs (either audio or data)?

I'm at a loss as to suggest how to proceed, but you might try buying some CD-R disks (recordable once only; not read/write) and try those.  CD-R disks can be more reliably read than CD-RW disks.  I'm just speculating here, but it may be that the disk that was
recorded when your drive was newer (and cleaner) is readable by your drive, but that a new, blank CD-RW disk is not.

To check for Windows updates

1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
2. In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
