Create factory default backup to external drive instead of DVD?
I just got a new laptop--an Asus UL30A-A2--and when turning it on, was prompted to create a backup of the factory settings for Windows 7.
The box asks me to prepare blank DVDs, and when I click the "backup" button, another box informs me that no DVD writer
is found.
My laptop does not have an optical drive, so of course it doesn't find a DVD writer.
I ordered an external drive, but it won't arrive in the mail until next Tuesday.
I was wondering if it would be possible to make my computer make the backup to an
external USB drive instead of DVDs, both because that would be more convenient for me and also because I would like to be able to use and customize my computer this week.

Hi,
If the method included by Asus allows you to change the drive designation then of course it can
be done so check with ASUS Support.
One issue is that the backup to USB will not be bootable
as the one using the DVD "might" be (again it depends on the method ASUS uses).

Other methods that "might" work include making a bootable USB drive.
Remember when a CD/DVD
drive is needed to set anything up they can be done on another computer then used as needed on
this one.
